Now is the Time to Focus on Student Well-Being

The new reality of remote teaching and learning during COVID-19 can be a challenge for educators and students, alike. As we navigate how to translate our curriculum and instruction to online and distance formats, we must not forget one more critical piece: the personal connection between students and their teachers.

While academic learning and growth remain a priority during these times, we as educators can not neglect the social-emotional needs of our students and their families, most especially those students who have already experienced trauma and disruption in their lives. We must comfort families by reaching out and checking on basic needs. We must focus on communication and connection with students, especially when we don't have the face-to-face contact we may be accustomed to.
